HTC Makes Brand Push in China
July 30, 2010
Taiwanese Smartphone maker HTC announced on July 27 that the company officially entered the Chinese market, in a bid to tap the burgeoning demand for Smartphones in China, according to a press release by HTC on July 27. HTC stated that it will initially launch four Smartphone models under its own brand, two of which will be global best-selling Smartphone models, dubbed the HTC Wildfire and HTC Desire, and the remaining two will be TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) Smartphones tailor-made for China Mobile, dubbed the HTC Tianxi and Tianyi, the Sohu IT News reported on July 27.

Moreover, HTC also plans to team up with a Chinese telecom operator China Mobile, under which they will collaborate to launch more TD-SCDMA Smartphones in the near future, and will form a new strategic partnership with Chinese electronics distributor Gome, expecting sales to increase as a result of an additional distribution partner. Further details regarding the pricing of four Smartphone modules, however, were not yet disclosed. Aside from HTC, Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and Apple also have their market presence in China, accounting for 27%, 18%, 14%, 9%, and 7% of the total mobile phones sold in China, Reuters reported on July 27.
